Wade Boggs game used bat from his last order from the Boston Red Sox from 1992. This bat is a very unique one as Boggs took this one with him after the trade to the New York Yankees to start the 1993 season. You can see the knob markings, showing his Yankees number 12 and when you look closely, you can see his Red Sox number 26 under the 12. Factory shipping records indicate that Boggs ordered this B349 Flame Treated 34 inch, 31 ounce bat in 1992. The bat was graded 9 by Mears and the documents are included in the auction.
Really nice use with many ball and seem marks on the right side of the hitting surface and a small area of grain separation from repeated contact in the same area which Boggs was famous for. Nice areas of pine tar on the lower handle and more up near the Louisville trade mark.
A 12-time All-Star third baseman, Boggs ended his 18-year (1982-99) major league career with 3,010 hits, a .328 batting average and a .415 on-base percentage. In his 2,432 career games, Boggs reached base safely in 80 percent of them.
Boggs continued to spray line drives to all fields throughout every American League park. In 1985, his .368 batting average, a career best and the highest mark by a Red Sox player since Ted Williams hit .374 in 1957, not only led the big leagues but his 240 hits were the most in baseball in 55 years.
