Toronto Blue Jay collector are always searching for patched Jays jerseys. This is the first time in Jays history that they wore a patch. It is the coveted 10th anniversary of the team celebrated in 1986.
Most of these jerseys had the patches removed and re used at lower levels of the Blue Jays farm system. Many more were thrown out and this one was saved from the garbage after the 86 season by a club house attendant. This jersey is tagged with only the year designation and does not have the set information. Being a rookie, the Jays gave him a spare to use to start the season.
It shows great wear all over and has some type of marks on it which I'm sure could be laundered out if desired. The tagging in the neck is frayed and the Jays logo and all letters show nice wear.
Mark Eichhorn had the best year of his career this season, also being his rookie season in the big leagues. He finished 6th in American League Cy Young voting and third in rookie of the year tallies behind Wally Joyner and winner, Jose Canseco. That is some rare company.
His stats were unreal. He led the Blue Jays pitchers with a 1.72 ERA and strike outs with 166. He also tied with Jim Clancy and Jimmy Key in wins with 14.
This rare jersey covers all the bases for any Jays collector. Rookie season of a players best year, Jays 10 year patch and nice use. The pictures are not matches but one of them is likely this one. He would have worn 2 home jerseys which was the normal practise of the team. One of the pictures shows the exact same positioning of the 86 patch.
