Gilles Gilbert 1975 – 76
Sweet gamer here from Boston Bruins fan favourite, Gilles Gilbert. Matched to the photo below, Gilbert used this jersey during the 1975 season at the Boston Garden. A couple nice repairs, sweat stains and fight strap cut out are a few of the tell tail signs of a Gilbert worn jersey. Nice post paint on the left arm from hugging the goal post at the Garden. I got to me Gilbert a couple years back and he was such a nice guy. I asked him, had I asked you for a stick when i was a kid, would you have given me one? He said, for sure! I missed out on one of his nice Northland or Canadian sticks and still in search of one of those for my collection.
Born in Saint-Esprit Quebec, Gilbert played 14 seasons in the NHL. He was originally drafted in 1969 and played for the Minnesota North Stars. He was traded to the Boston Bruins in 1973 to replace Gerry Cheevers after Cheesie jumped shipped to the World Hockey Association. He would play for the big bad Bruins for seven years before being sent to the Detroit Red Wings where he spent the last three years of his career. Gilly suited up for 416 regular season games and added 32 more playoff contests. With a final goals against average of 3.27 and 209 wins, its easy to see why Gilles Gilbert was one of the best at his trade. Very cool sweater to have in my Boston Bruins collection.
