Mario Lemieux 1985 First Goal Of The Season Game Used Stick Photo Matched

Amazing stick here from one of the greatest to play the game, Mario Lemieux. As denoted in pen on the upper shaft, Oct 10, 1985, first Goal 85-86 Season 5-3 Loss to Montreal, this stick was used to score his first of 48 that season. Dated on the back of the shaft Sept 06, 1985, and coded at the base of the blade 5-285 would put this in his mitts just a month after it was produced at the Titan factory. The stick is photo matched to this exact game from an image at Alamy, dated October 10. You can notice the M.Lemieux name stamp in the exact location in relation to the graphics as well the TSM1001 being in the exact position shown in the live game photo. These sticks never had the same alignment when made with the distance changing with on each stick produced. Great wear on the blade with the tape well worn and marks up and down the shaft. Properly taped in Lemieux fashion on the knob and blade completing a perfect gamer for any Hall of Fame collection. An almost impossible find, this Lemieux goal scored stick used in only his second season and first game of 1985, make this one special stick.

Mario played all his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. His career spanned a seemingly short 13 seasons from 1984 to 1997, when he was unanimously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame with out the normal 3 year waiting period. Super Mario finished with 690 goals, 1,033 assists while only playing in 915 games. Drafted first overall by the Penguins in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Lemieux led Pittsburgh to consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992. Under his ownership, the Penguins won additional titles in 2009, 2016, and 2017. He is the only man to have his name on the Cup both as a player and owner. He also led Team Canada to an Olympic gold medal in 2002, a championship at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, and a Canada Cup in 1987. He won the Lester B. Pearson Award as the most outstanding player voted by the players four times, the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player (MVP) during the regular season three times, the Art Ross Trophy as the league's points leader six times, and the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP in 1991 and 1992. He is the only player to score one goal in each of the five possible situations in a single NHL game, a feat he accomplished in 1988. At the time of his retirement, he was the NHL's seventh-highest career points scorer with 690 goals and 1,033 assists. He ranks second in NHL history with a 0.754 career goals-per-game average, behind Mike Bossy (0.762). He ranks second in NHL history with a 1.129 career assists-per-game average and a 1.883 points-per-game average, both behind Wayne Gretzky (1.320 and 1.921, respectively).
