This guy was one of the nicest players I met during my time as a kid asking for sticks and pucks. Walt Poddubny always had time for me and many others kids around the rink in North York Ontario. Centennial Arena was home to the Toronto Maple Leafs training camps and when Maple Leaf Gardens was busy with concerts, they would practise there during the regular season. Walt drove a sweet white Corvette. He used to spin his car around on the ice and snow behind the arena. He was a huge 3 Stooges fan and wore a hat like Curly. Total gentleman who left the planet way too early.
This home jersey of Walt’s was worn during the Toronto 150th Birthday year of 1983-84. Nice use on this baby as it was worn for the full second half of the season and was originally sourced directly from Walt. The Leafs players were given the home whites after the season.
Born in Thunder Bay Ontario , Walt played in 468 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils. I'm sure he is missed by many and I will never forget him. Photo matches to follow as there are several.
